Nasal Polyps Surgery Success Stories - New Study

Hình ảnh
Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps significantly affects patient quality of life. Medical and surgical treatments aim to clinically manage the condition. This  prospective cross-sectional cohort study  enrolled 39 patients  and  looked  into  the  follow-up data of subjects diagnosed with Nasal Polyps before surgery, three months after surgery, and at least two years after surgery.  The Sinonasal Outcome Test 22 (SNOT-22) was used to assess response to treatment and long-term clinical management of the disease.   Results : Significant improvements in the SNOT-22 scores were seen between the preoperative  and postoperative assessments with three and 24 months. No statistically significant differences were seen when patients with polyps were compared to polyp-free subjects. Few patients were controlled in both groups, and 7.89% of the subjects had revision surgery during the study.Endoscopic sinus surgery significantly improved the quality of life of patients with Nasal polyps. Can Nasal Polyps Cause Cancer ?

Nasal polyps are soft pieces of swollen tissue hang like grapes on a vine. They grow inside your sinuses or nasal cavity, the area behind your nose. Nasal polyps are often linked to other conditions. These conditions cause inflammation, which triggers nasal polyps to grow.  In multivariate analyses, which controlled for smoking, asthma, allergic rhinitis, and other factors, the relative risk of participants with nasal polyps developing NCPS was slightly attenuated, with a hazard ratio (HR) of 6.24, as well as for nasopharyngeal cancer, with an HR of 1.58, compared with controls. Nevertheless, the association between the presence of nasal polyps and heightened risk of both NCPS and nasopharyngeal cancer remained positive even among participants who had never smoked, they note. In older individuals, "the nasal polyp–cancer relationships were consistently significant regardless of [the presence] of asthma comorbidity," the investigators point out. They also observed a trend, alb

Nasal polyps are common, affecting up to 4% of the general population, and can affect quality of life, but are usually benign However, a new study suggests that when they occur in older patients (≥ 50 years) they may increase the risk of developing certain head and neck cancers, in particular, nasal cavity and paranasal sinus (NCPS) cancers and nasopharyngeal cancer. "There is a broad perception, based on clinical experiences among experts, that nasal polyps are not related to future risk of cancer," write the authors. "Our findings carefully challenge the current paradigm because the relative risks of NCPS and nasopharyngeal cancers were significantly increased over a longitudinal follow-up," they add. ( The study was published online July 3 in the Journal of Allergy & Clinical Immunology.) This was a nationwide, population-based cohort study based on data from Korean National Health Insurance claims that compared 453,892 patients with nasal polyps and 4,583,93

Nasal polyps are grape-sized swellings of the linin g of the nose. There are various types of polyps and they most commonly cause nasal obstruction (blocked nose). They may also cause a r educed sense of smell and sinus infections.    Overall, nasal polypectomy surgery is safe in most people. Your risk depends on where your polyps are within your nose, whether you have had polyp surgery before, and also on any other med ical problems you may have. Some of these risks are very rare, but se rious. Some are more common but less troublesome. Firstly, you will have a general anaesthetic (you w ill be asleep for the operation). You will have a chance to discuss this with the anaesthetist before your surgery. This is a brief outline of the risks that would be most likely to influence your decision about having surgery   1. Common Ricks:   • Nasal Obstruction: You will probably have lots of dry blood and crusting causing a blocked nose for the f

In cases where conservative treatments don’t provide effective relief, nasal polyps surgery may be considered. This type of surgery is known as a polypectomy and is often performed using an endoscope – a tube with a tiny camera that gives your doctor a detailed view inside your nose and sinuses. During this procedure, the polyps and any other problematic tissue can be precisely removed. Special instruments are passed through your nostrils to perform the corrections, so no incisions will need to be made to your face. Nasal polyps removal may be done along with another type of surgery if other sinus or nasal-related issues are contributing to your condition. These include the following: Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS):  This surgery enlarges the drainage pathways of your sinuses and fixes any other issues interfering with drainage, thus preventing a future build-up of mucus. Balloon Sinuplasty:  A tiny balloon catheter is inserted through your nostril and inflat

Best Way to Cure Nasal Polyps without Surgery

Nasal polyps grow in inflamed tissue of the nasal mucosa. The mucosa is a very wet layer that helps protect the inside of your nose and sinuses and humidifies the air you breathe. During an infection or allergy-induced irritation, the nasal mucosa becomes swollen and red, and it may produce fluid that drips out. With prolonged irritation, the mucosa may form a polyp. A polyp is a round growth (like a small cyst) that can block nasal passages. Although some people can develop polyps with no previous nasal problems, there’s often a trigger for developing polyps. These triggers include: chronic or recurring sinus infections asthma allergic rhinitis (hay fever) cystic fibrosis Churg-Strauss syndrome sensitivity to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or aspirin There may be a hereditary tendency for some people to develop polyps. This may be due to the way their genes cause their mucosa to react to inflammation. Polyps can grow large enough to block yo
